7.1 One-Power Talents
7.1.1 Cloud Dancing
Cloud Dancing can be used to control the weather. Although smaller
scale control of air or water in a location can be achieved without this
Talent, only those with Cloud Dancing can cause the creation of storms
and powerful winds. Large-scale use of this Talent can disrupt normal weather
patterns in an area for days or possibly weeks.
7.1.2 Delving
Delving allows the use of the Power to locate ores within the earth.
Those especially Talented in Delving can additionally use the Power to
remove various types of ore from the ground.
7.1.3 Dreaming
The ability to Dream manifests itself in three main ways. The first,
often identifying a Dreamer, is that of having prescient Dreams. Although
not always completely clear, the Dreamer has Dreams which always come true
and a different in some way from their normal dreams. The second manifestation
is the ability to enter Tel'aran'rhiod, the World of Dreams, a reflection
of the real world in which a Dreamer's wounds a real upon waking, but in
all other ways seperate from reality. The last power of a Dreamer is the
ability to enter the dreams of others. Although different from Tel'aran'rhiod
in that these dreams are not life-threatening, it is possible to get caught
up and trapped in someone else's dream.
7.1.4 Earth Singing
The ability to cause large changes in the land is Earth Singing. Use
of this talent allows the creation or prevention of natural events such
as earthquakes and avalanches. As with Cloud Dancing, smaller manipulations
can be achieved simply using Earth but Earth singing is necessary for anything
of great scale.
7.1.5 Foretelling
The Talent of Foretelling grants the user occasional moments of prescience.
The Foretelling comes upon them unexpectedly and often takes a form not
easily understood. Foretellings often must be interpreted in order to find
meaning within them.
7.1.6 Healing
Perhaps the most common talent, Healing allows a user to cure injuries
ranging from small cuts and bruises to terminal illnesses and fatal wounds.
The greater a person's skill in Healing, the greater the wounds than can
be Healed. The only thing not curable by Healing is death. Healing requires
Air, Water, and Spirit.
7.1.7 Traveling
The Talent of Traveling allows a powerful user to open a gateway to
another location. A very difficult skill to begin with, the complexity
of the weave is further increased based upon the distance being Traveled
and how well the user knows the starting point for the gate.
7.2 Non-Power Talents
7.2.1 Wolf Brother
This talent generally manifests itself in a person after some sort
of contact with wolves. A rare talent, the power creates a bond between
humans and wolves. In its early stages, the wolves can be felt in the person's
mind based upon their distance from him. As the time spent with the wolves
increases, further effects manifest themselves. These include heightened
senses including smell, taste, hearing, and sight. With these heightened
senses comes a yellowing of the eyes, the only outward sign of the talent.
In addition, the human gains the ability to speak with the wolves in a
telepathic fashion. Lastly, the human gains the ability of joining the
wolves in the wolf dream. Also known as Tel'aran'rhiod, the wolf
dream is a reflection of the real world where thought becomes reality.
However, the wolf dream is unlike normal dreams in that wounds taken there
are real, up to and including death. The greatest disadvantage of the Wolf
Brother talent is a driving urge to join the wolves and run with them.
If these urges are not held at bay, the human can be lost to the wolf within
him and disappear.
7.2.2 Violence Sense
Also called 'sniffing'. People with this talent have the ability to
smell where violence has been done and folow the trail of those who did
it. Although not well documented, the strength and type of the smell seem
to differ based upon the violent act. For example, Trollocs feasting on
human captives would create a powerful, long-lasting scent which was easy
to follow, whereas the effect of two men fighting would fade quickly.
7.2.3 Pattern Reading
As the Wheel of Time weaves the pattern from the threads of men's lives,
the direction that those lives will take can sometimes be either suggested
or decided. Although this is not true of most men's lives, those who do
great things within the Weave are usually subject to this. Someone with
the ability to read the Pattern can see images which represent the direction
a life may take surrounding that person. Although the person reading the
Pattern might not always know what the image means, they often know when
something will definitely happen or is just a possibility. Occasionally
they will see multiple possibilities when the Pattern has woven two or
three definite outcomes to a situation.
